Cannabis use has a long history within the Maldives, with the plant being used for medicinal and recreational needs for centuries. Having said that, the government criminalized cannabis in 1953 beneath the Dangerous Medication Act, rendering it illegal to have, use, promote, or cultivate cannabis.According to the Countrywide Institute on Drug Abuse
